About Us

George Vallo, owner of Portafiori Flowers, has been interested in flowers since he was taken to The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, where his father became one of the working gardeners there for many years. When he was ten years old, George took it upon himself to approach Macy's and sell them 2 dozen small novelty flower arrangements that he was taught to make by an aunt. Many years later, he decided to open the shop, Portafiori, in January of 1991.

Portafiori had many valued customers and clients after it's opening. George even sold a large amount of dried flower arrangments to one of the company's biggest clients at the time, who was Henri Bendel.

Although they loved working with customers in a retail setting, George and his staff soon found their true calling was in party and event work. In order for that to happen, they had to move their location to the New York City Flower Market. Portafiori is now a studio at 120 West 28th St Rm. 4E.

Right downstairs from them is the flower market. They are also close to many rental companies and supply stores. So, when they are doing an event they can supply everything from the flowers, linens, rental lighting, etc. This freedom also allows for them to work closely with clients in terms of consultations.

Portafiori also does weekly flower displays for clubs, lobbies and offices. They work closely with each client to come up with floral arrangements and displays that are unique for each client. They also have their phone lines open for gift orders of any type. Portafiori wants to bring their clients the freshest and most unique floral displays in New York.

New York City Flower Market

Portafiori is one block away from the Flower Market. This gives them the opportunity to buy fresh flowers on a daily basis. When specific requests come in, they can fill them with the large variety of flowers, plants, silk flowers, ribbons, pots and giftware that are available at the Flower Market.
